In my practice, many patients have experienced relief from shoulder pain that has plagued them for years. Frozen shoulder, also known as adhesive capsulitis, can not only be a very painful condition, the limitation in range of motion can impede activities of daily living. Two recent studies reveal acupuncture’s success in helping subjects get relief from shoulder pain as well as improve the shoulder joint’s functionality. In another study, with over 17,000 patient outcomes, the research showed acupuncture’s efficacy for a variety of arthritic conditions. The researchers concluded, “Acupuncture is effective for the treatment of chronic pain and is therefore a reasonable referral option.”
